introducing new ferts to old

We've been interested in bringing home a new fuzzy, but have held back
because our 3 year old ferret, Zoe, ignores her when we visit.  I've read
that ferrets should be introduced to a home at the same time if people want
more than one.
 
Has anyone had similar experiences?  If so, what is your advice?  Did your
older ferret eventually come to enjoy the company of the new ferret?
