You did not say what kind of ant.  *IF* they are the little tiny
reddish/translucent ants that seem to get into kitchens then the answer is
simple: salt.  This type of ant is called a sugar ant here in TX and all
that is required to keep them out of the house is to put down a line of salt
where you see them walking.
