Hi Mass ferret owner,
 
Your story is indeed scary.  In Texas it is illegal for a vet tech to do
any surgery (including cat neuters).  If this is actually a true story
then it is time to report it to the state board in Mass.  Removing an
adrenal gland can indeed be hard to do and definitely not for a tech.
Vascular surgery is hard enough for us vets that do it, but it would be
impossible for a tech with no surgical training.
