Hi all--
 
I'm catching up . . . another alternative to styptic is--regular baking
flour.  Yup.  Works like a charm.  A bit messy, I have to admit, but readily
available in most households--and yes, I've had to use it once on a nail I
clipped to short--stopped the bleeding very quickly.
 
Thanks for the observation, Barb, I never imagined styptic was painful to
our animals!  That, on top of how darnded expensive it is means I'll be
packing my flour!
