AFA Public Statement
Concerning: Danee DeVore and ADV Breeding Practices

Fellow Ferret Enthusiasts,

It has recently come to the attention of the American Ferret Assocation
(AFA) that our AFA Secretary and Education Committee Director, Ms. Danee
DeVore, has been involved in breeding practices with ferrets who were
possibly exposed to the Aleutian disease virus (ADV). These practices were
unknown to the AFA and are NOT supported of defended by the organization.
Consequently, Ms. Devore has resigned from her position with the AFA. Any
question regarding this issue should be addressed to the AFA President, Ms.
Vickie McKimmey at [log in to unmask]

As the Education Committee Director, Ms. DeVore spearheaded the AFA's
efforts in ADV research and in collecting funds to help combat ADV. While
saddened by this turn of events, the AFA would like to inform the ferret
community that, even under the current circumstances, the ADV Grant
Research Committee is moving forward with its efforts. This committee is
currently deciding how the monies collected thus far should be allocated
and which research endeavors are the most promising. The AFA will continue
to play an active role in the support and funding of ADV research both now
and in the future. Any further correspondence or questions concerning this
topic can be directed to the Director of Health Affairs, Mr. Christopher
Palaski at [log in to unmask]

In closing, the AFA wishes to continue with its main goals: to Promote,
Protect, and Provide for the domestic ferret. We wish you all a healthy,
happy, and safe Holiday Season.

Sincerely,
Christopher C. Palaski
Director, Health Affairs Committee
American Ferret Association
