My ferrets' tails have always smelled musky, very faintly similar to the
odor a skunk emits when it sprays, except that in a ferret, the scent is
not overpowering and it's light enough to smell pleasantly sweet.  But
there's definitely a similarity, and I have no difficulty understanding
that there's a family connection between ferrets and skunks.
 
And skunks are truly beautiful -- has anyone else here noticed that?  They
have such gorgeous, thick fur and big, bushy tails and spunky personalities.
I just don't want to get too close to one and have it get upset.
