Hello All,
Just wanted to put my two cents in regarding ferrets and cats.

Unfortunately, there is no general purpose answer. I have two cats and two
dogs and now two ferrets (we just got a little chocalate sable female named
Chelsea) and everyone gets along wonderful! The only animal that I feel
concerned about hurting the babies is our lab pup, not because he is mean
but because he is 71 pounds and very clumsy (always stepping on one of the
cats, the other dog or us). The problem with predicting compatability is
that you CAN'T! The ironic match in our family is Lucy and Rupert. Lucy is
our fuzzy and Rupert is our male cat! Rupert is the hunter in the family.
We have taken partially eaten prey from him and we have rescued a couple of
birds and a baby bunny but at home Rupert is the ultimate Omega! He is so
submissive with the other animals that sometimes it makes you feel sorry for
him! Then came Lucy! I was worried about his love of the hunt but Lucy
seems to be closer to Rupert than anyone. They play together and groom each
other and if Rupert even thinks about forgoing his daily cleaning Lucy grabs
his cheek and hisses at him. She sticks her head clear up to her ears into
his ears and goes to work! It kills Rupert! It tickles so bad that he
tries to shake his head! But then his woman puts him back in his place and
poor Rupe just lays back down and takes what Lucy dishes out until SHE
decides that he can go. Once in a while he grooms her as well and if they
are both missing you can always find them curled up together in the clothes
basket on top of my clean clothes! I have always thought it was a better
idea to introduce different species of animals to each other at as early an
age as possible so that they grow up together (makes a tremendous differnce
sometimes) but I am thankful to say that we have never had any major
problems with introducing new animals into the home (knock on wood!!!!).
Both cats were adults when we got the dogs and the ferrets and to date we
are one big happy family!

Hope I did not jinx myself!

God Bless and Love to All,
        Irena...Lucy and Chelsea's mom
