I just took my 4 year old ferret Mort to the vet this morning, thinking
that the break in his fang was new, and was causing the redness in his
gums. I was prepared to have the vet remove the broken tooth, if needed.
Turns out that the break is old, and isn't causing him pain. Gingivitis
is the problem. I was given (okay, sold for $15)MaxiGuard Oral Cleansing
Gel and told to use it once a day to help Mort's problem. The vet also
suggested a dental diet food, but all the formulas out there are cat food,
not kitten or ferret. (Right now I feed ZuPreem Ferret, Totally Ferret, MF
Ferret food {Which is there because it's a favorite}Iams Kitten {which will
be phased out at the end of this batch} Eukanuba Kitten, Science Diet
Feline Growth, ProPlan Kitten, NutroMax Kitten. I coat it with Nupro
Ferret Supplement, and give Bob C's Chicken Gravy with breakfast.) For
treats Mort likes Ferretbites, but we just found a new favorite...Nutro
Puppy Drumsticks.

What else do you guys do to prevent/treat gingivitis. I now use gauze pads
and rub their teeth and gums, but I think I'll add the oral cleansing gel
to everyone's routine.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Melissa
