Of one very active black-footed ferret kit, born about 10:30 am Friday,
June 20.

I got the following information from Education Program Manager,
Community Relations, National Zoological Park Conservation & Research
Center:

>The story I heard on this was that this is a HUGE breakthrough in
>science and conservation. She was artificially inseminated with the
>sperm of a genetically valuable male ferret...sperm that was frozen
>11 years ago and stored in liquid nitrogen until this year when the
>Species Survival Plan for ferrets recommended that these genes be
>taken out of cold storage and brought back into the living
>collection. The father has been deceased for many years.
