A strange thing happened to my ferret Kayla over the last two weeks or so.
She has completely lost control of her back end, including her bowels. My
first thought was obviously insulinoma, however, her blood sugar level came
back normal.

Kayla had surgery to remove an adrenal gland about 6 months ago and was
doing fine afterwards. The vet took x-rays and consulted with two other
vets to try to figure out what happened. Their conclusion was that Kayla
suffered some bone density loss in her spine, which caused a compression of
the vertebrae and paralysis of her back side. She does have some feeling
though, because when we spray some stuff to prevent infection on her butt,
she definitely feels some pain.

Has anyone else ever encountered anything like this?? Any ideas,
suggestions, comments?? What is the possibility of Kayla regaining the
use of her back legs, and more importantly, her bowels??

Kayla has already adapted to this. She's still eating and drinking fine,
and scoots around the house getting into trouble when let out.

I'll keep you posted on her progress, and if any suggestions you had helped
out.

Tony
