Greetings. Recently one of my fuzzies came down with what appears to be
ECE, or the green diarhea disease. We're not sure how he got it, but that's
not important right now. I noticed he was having loose stools about
Tuesday, and looked like he was suddenly dropping weight. I immediately
moved to feeding him Ferretvite for food and hand watering him. He appeared
to be doing fine, then Friday took a turn for the worse. Stayed up with
him, watering him, and then took him in to the vet on Saturday morning,
intending to have fluids injected.

Vet took a look at him and said that he needed to stay, be put on an iv,
have blood tests done and so on. I agreed, since I wanted him to have the
best of care. Checked back Sunday, was told he was doing better but she
would prefer to keep him another night. Gave the go ahead, knowing he was
in good care. Went down Monday, today, after work and talked with the vet,
as well as visiting with him. The dehydration is gone but she is still
concerned. This morning he was fiesty enough to fight the feeding, but by
later afternoon had turned very lethargic. He is building up water in his
lower area, and she says that he's not urinating as he should, and when he
does there are traces of blood in the urine. So she is concerned about his
kidneys. His stools are still quite loose as well, and blood is becoming
more prevelant in them. She showed me the blood work and he's very high in
something and low in another. (sorry, the names elude me.) She also popped
open his mouth to show me that his gums are quite white, indicating an
anemic problem.

When I discussed ECE with her she knew the basics. I fax'ed her a copy of
the ferret faq that covers ECE, and spoke with her about it today. She said
that she new most of it, although some was new to her. I also included Dr.
Williams' number, per the faq, and told her that if she wanted to call him
just charge it to my bill.

My question to the FML'ers is, has anybody dealt with this recently,
particularly the additional symptoms that I described above? I did see the
blood part in the faq, but nothing on the lack of urination, build up of
fluids and the anemic response. I'm hoping somebody might have some info
that I can share with the Dr. that can help little Stevie through this.
Please e-mail anything you have to me at [log in to unmask] and I'll fax it to
her. (or, if you like, Dr. Frank @602-395-9825 fax.) Stevie, Misty and I
really appreciate it!

Thanks very much!

                  Have a good one,

                       Peter
