Wacipi McMillian (1999-2004)
The lady who brought you to me had named you `Bubba'. Perhaps, she
equated your playfulness as a sign of simple-mindedness, but I recognized
it for what it was, the youthful zest for life that was common in ferrets
your age. The name had to go, so I called you Wacipi It Unca San Pi
Kici, which, in Teton Sioux, means (roughly) Dances With Weasels. And
how you danced, right into the hearts of everyone you met. In time, and
with the passing of many of your ferret brothers and sisters, you took
your rightful place as the alpha ferret in the main cage, until there
were only you and Gussie left there.

I won't linger on what took you from us, but rather rejoice in the
fun times we had together and the fine example you made for ferrets
everywhere. I know that somewhere, perhaps near the bridge everyone
talks about, you are playing, waiting for the day when all of those you
have loved will meet and go on to whatever lies ahead. You were very
much loved and will be very much missed. Dance on, Wacipi.

Love,
Dad, Mom, Gussie, Pixel and Bella

"I bought a box of animal crackers. It had a warning label on it
that read, 'DO NOT EAT IF SEAL IS BROKEN.' I opened the box and
sure enough... The giraffe was OK, though."
