Ferret sighting on Animal Planet

Well it was nice to see ferrets included on the show "PetConnection"   At
least I think that was the name.  Anyway the vets name was Dr. Birney.  He
had the cutest ferret on the show named Dakota.  But I was surprised to hear
him say that ferrets survive on dog or cat food just fine,but that cat food
was better.  I've always heard that dog food is a no no.  I was puzzled as
to why he wouldn't suggest ferret food first and cat food as a second.  Did
anyone else see this?
