Howdy.  Just wanted to mention that though ferrets are domesticated and
have been pets in this country for a long time, the vets I work for have
told me that ferrets are classified as "exotic" when they learn about
them not because they're equated with wild cats, reptiles, wild animals,
etc., but because even though they have been domesticated for a long
time, they are not indigenous to this country-they were brought here,
just like certain pet birds, etc.  Unfortunately, the term "exotic" has
become synonomous for many lawmakers with "wild," making it easier for
them to outlaw and misclassify our furry, domesticated friends.
