We just buried our little Kizsi-Ki a bit a go. I am numb but can't sleep...
just cry. There is a big hole in my heart. My husband and I both have
cried buckets. Tonight I went in the ferret room to fetch our four fuzzies
to play. Their cage is always open but usually Kitzi is curled up in a
ball next to her best bud Chewie. Tonight she wasn't in the cage and as
I searched I begin to feel more of a sinking heart. I found her crushed
beneath the radiator cover that we put on to keep them away and safe from
the radiator. This is a metal decorative cover that is heavy. There was a
tiny little air vent in the side next to the floor. Kizsi had forced her
little head and half of her little body into that tiny little place. She
got stuck and and her little back was broken from her struggle to get free.

When we got our little angels we knew that they would never be allowed to
run free. We have an old house that would be next to impossible to totally
ferret proof. We gave them a big room, a big cage and free time to run in
the upstairs supervised a couple of hours each night. We went over every
inch of every room they would be in. We bought radiator covers for all of
our big beautiful radiators. Typically in a day I go in their room to
check on them several times while they sleep. Today I only went in twice
in the early afternoon. Both times they were all sleeping as only ferrets
can sleep. Once late in the afternoon I heard what sounded like one of my
cats meowing and I dismissed it as just the cats. I now think that was my
sweet baby calling for help. I feel so guilty....so utterly heartbroken....
so full of utter dispair. Kitzi was an absolute joy. A joyful war dancing
spirit who touched our hearts and made us laugh. Kizsi-Ki was beautiful
and only 12 weeks old............I will miss you and love you forever sweet
girl and so does your best Bud Chewie, Pasha, and our little Yoshi.

I hope to make people realize how totally helpless animals are, how
dependent on us, trusting as a child must, that we will be kind and take
care of their needs...[They] are an obligation put on us, a
responsibility we have no right to neglect, nor to violate by cruelty."
