Hi- I am looking into this same question and will post to the list if I
learn anything about shelters in CA.  So far I've found out there are some,
but the one that has the most information is adamant about not adopting to
Californians- they adopt out to other states.  But I'm interested more in
volunteering there taking care of the ferrets waiting to be adopted- the
person I wrote to hasn't written back yet though...
