Beware of your chickens that you get for chicken gravy. Our main
grocery out here in Arizona (and I don't know where else) is Fry's,
part of the Kroger family. I have bought the whole Foster Farms
chickens there for several years, and when I went for one today they
only have Tyson whole fryers. They still have the cut up parts by
Foster Farms, but I'm not going to pay for that. The difference? Tyson,
while claiming to be natural, hormone-free chicken, is injected with
12% flavor enhancer, like turkeys. Also Pilgrim's Pride does the same
thing. This adds 150 mg of sodium to a serving of the chicken. Now I
will have to go out of my way to another store to find plain chickens.
I hope Costco still caries Foster Farms. Albertson's has Sanderson
Farms which is OK but I haven't been there yet to see if changed
anything.
