Best hairball remedy I've found is Petromalt.  It's basically for cats, but
my Dorbhan thinks it's THE BEST.  It's the only treat he likes.  I give him
about an inch of the stuff that I've squeezed along my finger.  He just
gobbles it up (the Petromalt, not my finger!).  The only trick is trying to
get it on my finger, then get the cap back on the tube before he throws
himself at my finger.  He comes out of hiding for a squeeky toy and gets a
little Petromalt as a reward.  He only gets about an inch a day, although
he'd probably OD on it given the chance :-)  Hope this helps.
