Actually, since they preceeded it with the "nice pets" part, it's not
necessarily a bad thing.  Far better that people know NOT to but little
Jane's ferret our for playtime with little Julie's guinea pig (or mouse,
or rat, or ...) than to have a traumatic experience that might result in
ferret rejection or death.
 
BTW, parakeets will also chew off guinea pigs' ears ... piggers have no
real defensive capability.

My husband always reads Readers Digest and at the bottom of some articles
their are little articles where people view their comments: This is the
Sept.2002 pg. 145
 
I won't quote the exact words but to the effect someone wrote about
Ferrets are nice pets, but they chewed off a guinea pig's ear.  Written
by Bill Porter.  I didn't care for this comment.
