Ummm...well...it would be too much if you have them in the dark all day
and then in the dark all night!  You could have them in a pitch black room
during the night instead of day?
 
Does it have to be 14 hours straight?  Can it be broken up?  Maybe part of
the "pitch black time" could be a few hours while you are working and the
rest during the night?
