Dear FML:

At 3:30PM EDT 4/16/1999 Ferret Friends Disaster Response International
status changed from Disaster Watch to DISASTER RESPONSE for St. Lucie
County and Indian River County Florida. We also changed status from
Disaster Watch to Disaster Alert for the state of Georgia (due to
tornado's) and the state of Texas (Tornado's and Fires).

DISASTER RESPONSE. Fires in the St. Lucie County Florida has destroyed
over 50 homes and left several thousand without electricity. Many Children
of fur, feathers, scales and shells have died in these fires. Many have
been displaced. Fortunately St. Lucie County Humane Society is making
room and finding temporarily quarters for the animals of the family who
evacuated with their animals. Also other counties in southern Florida are
lending support to help the families with accommodating their animals.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY (Vero Beach Humane Society VBHS) Approximately 5 day
ago a Mulch factory close to the VBHS caught on fire - it is still burning.
When the Fire Inspectors went in they found abandoned cars, empty fuel
drums, fuel drums partly filled, and various other flammable objects. This
particular fire is slow burning and EXTREMELY dangerous. Today I spoke
with the Director of the VBHS and was told that they have been advise
evacuation is necessary. They will be evacuating the animal to the local
sheriffs firing range. They have transportation and crates but desperately
need our help.

The Vero Beach Humane Society has assisted the FFDRI on 9 disasters. Also
this particular Humane Society has for the last eight years supported the
Ferret Shelters in this county. The VBHS don't only turn all ferrets over
to the Ferret shelters such as: Ferret Friends of Indian River County, and
Ferret Camp. They have paid for the vaccinations, examination and when
needed spayed and neuter of the Ferrets. The VBHS is truly a Ferret Friend
- always there and always ready to assist. Now they need us.

What is needed: The Ferret Friends Disaster Response International has
exhausted it's disaster medical supplies - for those who wish to send
medical supplies for the ferrets such as: Amoxicillian, Waterjel First Aid
Emergency Burn Dressing (Dressing only please), Prelone Syrup, Timmy's
Tonic, Dremarin, Earmite medicine., Etc. Also things that are needed Snap
lite's (these are those things you can get at camping stores or at Walmart-
you snap them in half and they provide lite), Small portable battery
operated fans (badly needed), large waterproof tent, battery operated
