Hi,
I have been recently plaqued with e-mail about what owners should worry
about their ferrets getting into and chewing on. Here is a list of many
things that most ferrets like that are dangerous to them.

-Ferrets loces to play with all sorts of caps. Chemical caps are not
reccomened as they may contain chemical residued that can harm your ferret.

-oitment in tubes. Ferrets love to sink their teeth into about anything so
keep ointments, etc.. and other chemicals stored in tubes out of the reach
of ferrets

-ferrets also like to climb into drawers and climb up on the inside. Do not
store things that are dangerous to your ferret, or things that you don not
want to find chewed or missing the next day.

-If your ferret is into cabinets, get ferret-proof, not just child-proof
cabinets locks. They are inexspensive and will save you vet. bills in the
long run.

-house plants are also a problem. Ferrets like to dig, and this doesn't
harm anything except maybe the rug and the plant, but soem house plants are
poisionous and cause bad things to happen to your ferret. A ferret that
belongs to a friend og mine injested philodendron leaves and was dead within
2-3 hours. (this ferret was not watched and had no chance tobe saved by the
vet.)

-Some ferrets are inclined to climb in to washer and dryers, and evne
toilets if like to play in water. Do not let your ferrets do this as it is
hazardous to their health and accidents do happen. This goes for laundry
to. Althoguh I'm sure most responsible ferret owner check their laundry
pile before they wash it, ferrets do not weigh that much and a dead to the
world fuzzie could easily meet a watery doom here by accident again.

-ferrets also manage to climb upon just about everything and they especially
like to knock things off of hooks, etc... Falling objects, like tools are
examples of things that may hurt your ferret. I also heard of a ferret that
injested some tacks that he fougn while exploring an open roll top desk.

-ferrets also seem to be ignorant when it comes to fans. they like to stick
their paws into them in between the bars.

-ferrets chew electrical cors as well, so hide them or ferret-proof them to
avoid a capital puinishment for your fuzzy.

-the basement furnace is also of interest to most ferrets. they don't
really get it obout hot things.

As far and carpet-sharking/digging and missing the litter box, and chewing
on non-dangerous items, I'm sure most of you waht dangers may be involved
here so I will not go into this.
