Hello from Orem Utah. In Utah the rules on ferrets are set by the local
governing body. Ferrets are legal in most of the state. I don't know
about any local requiring the microchips, but I don't know all the areas in
the state.

In Orem there are no rules. In Salt Lake County, (the area in the county
that is not incorporated), ferrets are illegal. The ferret association
convinced the county to write an ordinance that would make ferrets legal
except that a ferret on the loose could be immediatly destroyed.
However, the county government in its wisdom converted a one page
ordinance into some 41 pages of regulations. Their argument was that if
we could start over on cats we would, but since we can't we will
regulate the hell out of ferrets. Now things are back at the drawing
board.

I believe that this is correct. Somebody from SL County should jump in if
they know more.

We have 2 ferrets and they are really a lot of fun.
