I moved to L.A. from the Midwest and when I found an apartment I could
afford (no small feat in LA), I simply told my Landlord that I had two
"caged rats" on my lease.  Hasn't been a problem.
 
That's enough to satisfy my Landlord and keep her from wondering why I
have a cage in my living room.  So far she hasn't noticed the toys strewn
around certain corners!
