Hello fellow ferret slaves.

I posted two weeks about Tazz and his enlarged spleen. After xrays,
bloodwork, and exams by three of the doctors I work with, and phone
consults with specialists, it is decided that the spleen needs removing.
His spleen is just huge, taking up most of the abdomen, and he's gained
about 1/2 a pound. We got some of his bloowork/urinalysis back today
and so far everything seems normal. His surgery is scheduled for Monday.
I'm sure everything will go fine..but still very nervous. My boss will
be doing the surgery and he's the best surgeon I know. I'd trust him if
he was a human doctor! Though I wouldn't call him the most ferret savvy
vet around, he's done a couple adrenalectomys (sp?) on ferrets and
several splenectomys on dogs. Hopefully we won't be to busy that Monday
so I can stay with Tazz the entire length of the surgery ( I work
reception desk Monday morings :/ ).

He's still running around like a normal ferret, sometimes having a little
trouble getting his big tummy in smaller spaces. Doesn't seem to hurt
him. I'm thinking it will be better that we remove it now routinely
then later as a possible emergency. He handled the anesthesia for the
bloodwork really well, woke up very fast. Gotta love that Sevoflurane.
My co workers tho anxious for me, are very interesting in seeing the
surgery, and so am I..tho I'd rather it be someone else's ferret! Got
some A/D for after the surgery in case he doesn't wanna eat his kibble.
He LOVES his "duck soup".

Well, thanks for reading my rambling. Hugs to all your fuzzies.

Dooks,
Jamie M. R.V.T.
