There seems to be a distemper epidemic in Long Island.  Over 700 raccoons
have been found with active distemper and euthanized so far this year.
Normally that number would be about 30.  Distemper is an airborne illness
which ferrets are highly susceptible to.  Please be sure your ferrets are
properly vaccinated.  Once they are infected, it is 100% fatal, there is
no cure.  Raccoons are found in every area, urban to rural.  So don't
think that you are immune.
