Hi,

Vanessa Gruden, Shelter Director of FACT, asked me to post about a man who
emailed her asking to adopt from out of state and asking if she would ship
a ferret. She responded that we never do adoptions without personally
meeting the people nor do we ship. She made some suggestions, as the
people had a young son, and had already given up five ferrets in the past
for various reasons. She suggested reading a book to find out what the
right pet is for you and offered a few other ideas. She was in no way
rude, but received a nasty reply. His first email was normal, so she
would like to warn other shelters, and you may contact her directly at
[log in to unmask] for particulars, as I cannot post them here. This
is not intended to start a debate on whether people with small children
should have ferrets, as we realize every situation is different, and that
is why we insist on a personal interview to ascertain if a ferret is the
right pet, as these pour souls have bounced around enough; our goal is to
find a permanent home.
