The Human Society of the United States is going to make , in Nov. of this
year, a week for it's first National Shelter Appreciation Week.!!!!  Start
revving up now for newsletters on this great news, or have a party to
celebrate it at your shelter--with all the adorable ferts in plain site, or
hold a raffle to celebrate the week.  I can't imagine the great ideas all
of you will come up with.  What an opportunity for fert shelters to bring
in some money!!
 
Read all about it by going to http://www.hsus.org.  I then looked under
search, typed in ferret, and found this along with tons of other great
stuff.
 
Read the HSUS current campaign.  It is to be fur free by 2000.  Articles
include ferrets being used for making of fur coats.
 
There was so much stuff in this web site, that I have barely touched it
after over 2 hours.
 
This is one of groups i support financially.  They recognize ferrets as
an animal that needs to be protected.  And now they are promoting the
recognition of fert care in shelters.  Don't sit on your back sides and let
this great chance to make money for the babes.  I know how much some of you
hate that kind of thing.  But we are all behind you.
 
Maybe call and ask if someone can write an article for your local paper
well before Nov.  hits so people know you exist, and where you are and what
you do.  Or take your babes to pet stores that don't sell animals and have
a booth over the weekend with some shelter ferts.[And NO--don't sell any
that day to some impulse buyer.  They can come to your shelter.]
 
I have not had a store say that they didn't want shelter ferts in their
shop.  They all loved the idea.  People learn about ferts, about you and
shelter, you hand out literature.Manager makes up flyers months before.
new people come.  They buy.  Win-win situation.
 
Sorry---I'm just so excited for shelter owners.
