We recently had a big problem with fruit flies in our basement and I
found a trick that worked really well--leave 1/4 of an open bottle of
sweet wine* (or regular wine with some sugar in it) out where the fruit
flies are congregating. We had literally small clouds of them hanging
around our washing machine and the wine bottle trick got rid of most of
them over night. Basically they fly into the bottle to get to the wine,
then they can't get back out of the bottle (presumably because either
they drowned in the wine or got too sticky or they're too drunk to move).
Obviously depending on your ferrets you may need to be sure to keep the
bottle well out of their reach--I know I have one little booze hound to
watch out for :)

*what you do with the other 3/4 of the bottle of wine is, of course, up
to you ;)

Is that my business? Well, what is my business? Do I know? Did I ever
know? Let s not go into that. You re not human tonight, Marlowe. Maybe
I never was or ever will be... Maybe we all get like this in the cold
half-lit world where always the wrong thing happens and never the right.
