I had a similar problem.  My solution was to make a special tent.  It
attaches at three points and uses some flexible plastic mesh stitched
between two layers of fabric to support it (probably optional).  The tent
is attached at the door hinge, about half way out on the door, and the same
distance out on the wall, forming a triangle.  Inside I put a nice cushion
for them.  When the door opens, the tent folds up like an accordian and the
ferrets find themselves floating upwards.  Once the door is closed,
PRESTO!, anti-poop device.  As a hint, place enterances at both new corners
since the ferrets will probably not want to poop in the middle of one of
THEIR major throughways.  If you are interested, I can snap a few quick
digital pictures this evening and e-mail them to you.  I do wish that I had
used more attractive fabric though ;-(
