My "baby" ferret Merlin is always the one getting into stuff he shouldn't,
and once I caught him eating socks under a bureau, but that was over a week
ago and there were no signs of a blockage. I think he was just chewing
holes in them, not actually eating and swallowing the material. However,
lately he's been acting a little strange. The past two days he was not
nearly as energetic as usual, and last night after some coughing and
hacking, he heaved and finally vomited (all liquid), then he spent a long
time scratching frantically at his neck, mostly the front (throat part)
but also contorting his body to scratch the back as well. Of course,
knowing Merlin and suspecting a blockage of some sort, I immediately gave
him a heavy dose of PetroMalt so he had green diarrhea all night. Today
he appears to be fine. He's still pretty itchy, no sign of fleas and I
used the vaporizer last night so it's nice and moist in here (no dry skin).
Any ideas? Why after throwing up would his throat area be so itchy?
