It turns out that sugars MAY not be a problem for ferrets with insulinoma.

Here's the history: Many years ago in terms of ferret medicine (Say over
a decade ago...) it was thought that giving sugars was the way to go.
Then it was postulated that sugars may cause an over-response that could
be hard on the pancreas so then no sugars was said to be the way to go.

The truth: NO ONE KNOWS. Sugars may pose a problem but they may not.
(Insulinomae over-produce insulin independent of the sugar intake.)

Now, giving sugars can throw off blood test results and can mask symptoms,
so don't forget that and the confusion that can arise from that effect if
it's not taken into account, but no one knows if there is pancreatic
stress or not because the studies which could show one way or another do
not yet exist in dogs, cats, or ferrets.

Anyway, I learned that from Dr. Bruce Williams tonight and figured that
you might also find it interesting.
