I sympathize with the plight of shelters and their huge vet bills that
are so hard to cover, but I just wanted share a positive experience with
Marshall's guarantee. My very first ferret, Clover, went into season when
she was a few months old. My vet thought there was probably a remnant
of ovarian tissue left from an incomplete spay, but she turned out to be
completely intact! I took the $350 vet bill to the store that sold Clover
to us (NJ Pets in East Hanover, NJ), and, because I'd sent in the warranty
card when we first got her, the store paid the vet's bill in full. They
said Marshalls would reimburse them. So the guarantee was worth $350 to
me. (Before you ask where I found such a reasonable vet, keep in mind
that this was almost seven years ago, so the vet's bill would likely be
higher today.)

A side note: Clover is over seven years old now, and is as healthy and
active as a 2-year-old (knock on wood!), unlike some of my others who are
all younger. Coincidence, or did the late spay contirbute to her good
health?
