Announcing the Friends of Ferret Shelters October Raffle for Jerri
Carel and The Ferret Haven in Louisville, KY!!

"There is a woman with lung cancer who was feeling worse and worse with
her treatments - so badly in fact, that she felt it would be in the
ferrets' best interest to surrender them to Jerri's shelter, so they
could be adopted into a good home."

"Jerri, having had cancer herself, realized that this is not the best
time to give up babies you love -especially when you're giving up so
much else. She offered to shelter the ferrets for the time being, and
bring them for a visit once a week. The woman burst into tears,
grateful that someone understood."

"Jerri has taken the babies to visit their mommy every week, ever
since."

"This is above and beyond the call of duty for a shelter, and another
example of what makes Jerri so special."

- Cathy Strobach, Zoo's Ferret Sanctuary

The Ferret Haven is a "no kill" ferret shelter and a PetSmart Adoption
Partner. It serves southern Indiana, southern Ohio, all of Kentucky
and western Tennessee and currently houses 45 ferrets (with another 16
coming in on October 14!). Eight are permanent residents due to medical
or behavioral issues. They also cover medical bills for several ferrets
in permanent foster homes.

Their largest expense by far is medical as they have several ferrets
awaiting surgery. They use Melatonin implants and are trying to raise
funds for their first purchase of Lupron, which runs $550 for the
minimum 75-dose purchase.

You can help Jerri Carel and all of the ferrets at The Ferret Haven get
the Lupron and surgeries they need by visiting the Friends of Ferret
Shelters website at <http://www.shelterfriends.blogspot.com/>
