USE ASPEN shavings.
 
AND get a little circulation in the bottom of those glass tanks.  Try to
imagine yourself living in the bottom of a container of your own waste mixed
with the food you're about to eat and having to sleep in a fungus breeding
place with no fresh air except some fresh ammonia fumes.
 
Put the tank on it's SIDE at least, with the mesh top facing out.  At least
then the heavier than air CO2 can fall out.
