Hello everyone,

Many of you have asked me what to do now. To bring you up to date, our bill
is on its way to the Senate Approriations Committee. The Committee and its
members, as well as the language of the bill at the present time, is availabe
on our website: <http://www.ferretnews.org>

If your Senator has already voted on the Natural Resources Committee, please
write him/her a thank you note. Only one Senator abstained (Thompson) and
one Senator voted no (Johnston). If you are in Senator Thompson's district,
please ask him to vote yes on the floor. If you are in Senator Johnston's
district, please ask him to reconsider. Our bill will be heard in Senator
Johnston's Committee most likely in the latter half of August. Get those
letters to the Committee members ASAP. From there, if successful it will
move to the Senate floor, so all of you need to be writing to your State
Senators now! If you do not know where your State Senator stands on this
issue, it is critical that you spread the word about the bill in his/her
district. Please e-mail me with your mailing address in California if you
are willing to put up WANTED posters in your area.

If your Senator has already voted in support of our bill, or has written you
a letter promising support, it is time for you to focus on Governor Wilson.
Each of you needs to get 100 friends and family to write the Governor
telling him he should put an end to this senseless waste of taxpayer dollars
on a harmless domesticated pet that is legal everywhere else.

His address is:

Governor Wilson, Governor's Office
State Capitol
Sacramento, CA 95814

Keep up the steady but polite pressure on the legislature and the media. As
our bill progresses, it's a good idea to keep the local media abreast of the
issue so they can update their readers. Hopefully we will continue to get
some editorials in support.

Thanks for all your hard work and support. I apparently have one "fan" out
there that called me with a death threat if I continue to work on ferret
legalization in California. I have no idea who the caller was, perhaps a
pet store owner in Nevada or Arizona? My brother told me I should leave the
area for a couple of months but he's taking this much too seriously. I plan
on keeping up the pressure and doing my best to see this bill pass. I
figure this is a person with a lot of extra time on his hands-- maybe the
retired Dr. Constantine who wrote the infamous California Health report on
ferrets!
