Another remedy to the ant problem is carpet tape.  Since it's sticky on
both sides, small ants are afraid to walk on it.  I put it around the
bottom of the cage.  The only problem is that the tape is difficult to
remove and it needs replacing about every 5 months, as it collects dust.
