Hi, I hope someone can help me wih a problem we seem to having with our
11/2 year old female ferret Alex. About a month ago she took herself on a
little outside adventure that took us about a week to find her again, for
the first few days she was home she was a little lathargic and prefered to
hide under the couch or be in her cage, we attributed this to the fact that
the people who had found her kept her in a cage outside and although they
tried to take care of her(they made sure she had water and cat food, at
least) she has never been an outside animal (we live in South Florida, and
it's just too hot). Anyway we assumed after what she had been through she
needed time to readjust to being home again, and that seemed to be true
at least after a couple of days she was acting like her same old self,
although a much more loving and mellow ferret than she had been before.
But now about 3 weeks later she seems to be loosing weight, she's eating
but not as much as before and absolutely refuses to eat any ferret food,
only cat food (yes,we've tried mixing them she just picks out the cat
food, and if we just leave ferret food available she just won't eat at all)

she will if she's in the mood eat some ferretvite, but that was never her
favorite thing before this whole mess. She's not acting sick at all she
plays and plays and her eyes still look brite so we're stumped. The other
problem is we live in Port St Lucie, FL and there are no vets locally that
we can find that treat Ferrets, so any input for this problem would be
welcome.

Thank you,
Jim,Carol, Alex( really I'm fine mom & dad ), and Taz ( her worried little
brother )

PS The only other change is that while she was gone we got a baby Ferret,
male but that doesn't seem to be the problem they play together and after
a period of time we put them in the same cage together and they actually
sleep together, so I don't think that's the issue
