Hello everyone,

Finally things are back to normal in my town, we got our power back
yesterday evening. My fuzzys handled things pretty well despite the temp
in my place getting very high.

The reason for this post is I have to vent, I am very angry and disgusted
with some people right now. Let me explain. I am an animal specialist
for Petco in NY and during the outage I had to go in and be with the
animals to stabilize them and watch them. When I went in, outside the
door was a kennel. As I looked into the filthy, disgusting kennel a
very sad face met mine. I was dark in there, so I grabbed it and ran
inside. What I found broke my heart. I tiny male Marshalls ferret. He
is skin and bones!! He is brownish with a really cute white face, and
the sweetest personality, kisses too! I cant believe how thin he is.
Like I said, the cage was nasty so I tossed it and set him up in a nice 3
level tunnel cage, with good food and comfy bedding. He appeared to be
so grateful. He wanted to run, God knows when he last exercised! So I
put a harness on him and let him explore the store safely until he had
enough, What joy he had! He had trouble walking so I cut his EXTREMELY
long nails and then he war danced and ran around! My heart was as happy
as his was! When I placed him back in his cage he paced for hours and
finally settled down. No name, no note with history, not even water on
a blistering hot day. What if we had already moved our animals and no
one showed up? I don't even want to think about it. I noticed he had
diarrhea, but that could be due to a change in diet or stress. He
obviously has to vist the vet, but I personally couldn't take him right
away due to already over the top vet bills with other rescues. But by
Monday if the store doesn't bring him to their vet, I will find a way to
get him to mine.

I am so sorry this post is so long, but I just can't understand how
people could dump animals like trash. This isn't the first, and sadly
wont be the last. We also ended up with lizards, snakes and other
unwanteds that day. My vet said he was greeted be several "gifts" the
morning of the outage. Again, no history, no water UGHHHH! My whole
point is people PLEASE, do not take on a pet if you cannot handle it,
Know your limit. It's tough, but I've had to learn mine. And PLEASE do
not dump your animals carelessly when you are too lazy to find homes for
them. I have seen enough of this and it makes me sick.

Thanks for putting up with me, Kathy
