You can try clicker training the dog - every time the dog has a positive
interaction with the ferret(s) - click and treat the dog. Even if the
dog is just watching them - c/t. The more POSITIVE enforcement, the
better.

I am not in favor of the "alpha roll" - better to remove the dog to
his/her crate. The dog needs a place to escape from the ferrets.

You may also want to c/t the ferrets for positive interaction with the
dog too.

Don't get a terrier, even a small one, the in-born prey drive is just too
great. Maybe a herding breed would work better - imagine a Border Collie
herding ferrets :-)

Talk to the breeder. Explain you expect the dog to co-exist with
ferret(s). Each puppy is different, the breeder should know which of
her puppies would or would not match your needs.

Some dogs will locate lost ferrets . . .

merry Christmas to all and happy 2006
