Barb, a person almost never hears of anyone trying Lysodren for this
anymore. A lot of times it does nothing, but when it does work it can
sometimes cause atrophy and resulting Addisons. It's too unpredictable
and sometimes too extreme. Usually the approach is surgery and then that
isn't possible it most commonly now is Lupron, or Lupron and melatonin.
There is a lot on these in these two Archives:

http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/
and in great links available in the Critical Refs at

With a secondary infection you have to consider that it might have
started a stump pyometra (I can never be sure of the spelling on that so
check spelling alternatives if that doesn't come up when you search on
it/) in which case that also points to looking more carefully at surgery.
Meanwhile, you may find that Zenodyne on a moistened swab may help.
