Hi all. I have a question. Does anyone out there know of a Dr Sammie
Vaughn in Louisville KY. If so, what are your thoughts and/or experiences
with him?

I had a consultation with him this evening for a second opinion regarding a
knot in the anal area of my 3 yr old MF female. She is of course spayed
and decented. She developed the knot suddenly 2 1/2 weeks ago. I took her
to my vet who aspirated a syringe of material from the area. He put her on
antibiotics with tenative diagnosis of incomplete anal sac removal.(knot is
in the exact area where this would be) The area filled with fluid again and
the vet surgically lanced the area 3 days later. It filled again and he
picked the scab off (5 days later) of the lancing area and drained fluid
again and told me it needed to be done daily. I have had the dubious
pleasure of this task for 10 days now. I took her back today and he again
drained the area, placed her on a stronger antibiotic. She has another
knot adjacent to the first one which he says could be a tumor. I found out
about Dr Vaugn through the pet store I go to as he comes there 1x week for
consults. I took her in and he took one look and gasped Oh my gosh or
something to that affect. I didn't take that very well, thought he could
have considered how I might have felt with that reaction from a vet. He
said after a very short exam that she had a tumor that needed to come out
soon. He said something about an hemangioma I think. Her rectum is not
involved as her poops are still normal. The fluid I am getting is very
red, like blood, but not as thick as blood, no odor, and a lot of it. How
much I don't know, haven't measured. Dr Vaughn offered to take her back to
Louisville tonight and do surgery tomorrow but I declined. I want to talk
with my regular vet first but I do want to know if anyone has any
experience with Dr Vaughn. He says he is an exotics and avian specialist.
Thanks in advance for any input.

Ann and Sabrina (Mom will you please leave my backside alone!)
