My little kilmer who went in to the vet last week with an ulcer had to go
to sleep today. He was doing well on his meds then took a turn for the
worse Monday night. I had fed him at 8pm when I came home from work and
he was fine. When I took him out at midnight for another feeding and
meds he could not even stand. I had to hold him up so he could urinate.
Dr. Wardell had done blood work and everything, blood cell counts-white
and platelettes, ect came back normal but one enzyme in his liver. We
assumed this enzyme may be due to the direhea but can not be sure until
it clears up, which it was very nicely. I took him in this morning and
she kept him for the day to rerun blood work and she wanted to do an
x-ray. The enzyme in his liver had increased dramatically and he had
about 1/4 of his platelettes left. This all happen in 7 days. I was
devestated. The bad news came when she began to cry and tell me he had
a tumor on his liver and had cancer. She said the cancer was very
aggressive and he would not live out the week. It was a very difficult
decision for my fiance and I but the medicine for the cancer would just
complicate his ulcers and cause him more pain and suffering then
anything. We decided for the best thing for our little man was to let
him across the Rainbow Bridge with the help of Dr Wardell.

My other baby does not realize his brother is gone and hope he handles it
well. I am so scared he will become depressed. Does anyone have any
suggestions to help my other baby cope with the loss of his brother and
hammy mate. He is in his hammy right now with a beanie baby kittie but
I don't think it has hit him yet. And again I can not stress what a
wonderful woman Jean Wardell is, I have never met such a compasionate
person in my life.

Thanks all
Danielle, Mike & Willow
Greatly missing our little man Kilmer=
