If there is also possible insulinoma or diabetes try oral melatonin first
to see how the ferret fares.  (I recently sent this info, so someone may
not have been a member yet just those few days ago.)

Veterinary debate and study are ongoing because melatonin serves two
opposing functions in the pancreas so it might help some or worsen some
with either condition.  Right now there is way too little data to know,
so this is just a caution "in case" rather than hard data.
