Digging in rice for fun!!

Hi everyone;
 
I am hoping someone out there can help me with this question.  Someone
mentioned to me that I could use uncooked rice in a sandbox for the
ferrets to dig and burrow in.  My question is what if they eat the rice?
Can this harm them?  I don't want my babies to get sick so I will wait
for a response before I try it out.
