For those who didn't know who Suzanne Resinger was, she was the president
of the Central Az Ferret club for many years, and one of the people who
worked on eliminating the practice of California fish & game killing
ferrets they confiscated. I've heard of one instance when an officer beat
the ferret of an 11 year old girl to death, in front of her, with his
flashlight.

Suzanne was authorized to accept ferrets out of state, being here in
Arizona, and often paid for the air fare herself. I remember when she
called me early one morning (we live only about a mile apart), and said
"come quick, a guy in a van just arrived with 21 ferrets from California"..
I took one of them for my own, and Terry is a most loving big guy. He gets
along with everyone, and just falls across other ferrets when he wants to
tackle them. He then looks over his shoulder as if to say "your turn":).

It is very strange going thru having Suzanne leave in her sleep a couple of
days ago..., her husband Ken, son Chris & I went to dinner Monday, which I
am glad we did. She & Ken also spent a couple of days in the scenic White
mountains of Az. last weekend, something we're glad of having happened
also.

It was one week ago yesterday that Suzanne's own mother passed on, and
everyone was just dealing with that... No one expected this to happen at
this time. Suzanne was in the hospital 2 years ago with congestive heart
failure, and had for a long time been dealing with diabetes. This fall she
had a systemic infection for the second time due to a kitten scratching the
top of one of her feet.. Since she had little feeling with the diabetes,
she didn't feel it until it was infected. The doctor said if she gets a
third infection that it may be fatal, so she should give up all her
animals. That was very hard since it was so much a part of her life..

I was asked to care for Cezar, her favorite ferret that she would hand feed
& hold while he napped afterwards every evening. After a month or so, when
we were coming back from a dinner we stopped at my house & she was able to
hold Cezar for awhile. I had been suggesting that she consider having him
back as I wasn't able to give him as much attention as she would, and
privately I thought it would help her also. She finally said "I'm taking
Cezar with, but don't tell my doctor:)"... He lived a few months more
before he passed on since he was getting pretty old as it was. One reason
he was so special is she almost put him to sleep 3 times as he got so
sick & whatever would help other ferrets would seem to put him even
further behind health wise. The last thing she found was after she
removed Pedialyte from his cage he got better! I'm really glad they both
had that extra time together.

In memorial, Ken & Chris are asking anyone wishing to send flowers or
whatever to instead make a donation to her favorite charity. Checks can
be sent to: The Polecat Vet Fund, c/o Mary Mayday, 5289 S. Pagosa Way,
Aurora, CO. 80015; Her # is 303-690-1759. The polecats are part of the
Black Footed Ferret Recovery program, since they are genetically close
enough to help in feeding and care studies.

Suzanne will be very much missed for us that knew her, but hope she is
re-united with all her four legged kids that have passed over before she
did. Maby some day we all can get together again for a big party:)

Sincerely,

Gary & the gang of fur
