One trick for keeping a ferret (or other animal) from licking and
chewing at the dressings and surgical site is to powder some
metronidazole, and mix it into triple-antibiotic ointment. It is
REALLY bitter (as you know metronidazole is), so they won't lick or
chew it, and if they do get some in their mouth, hey it's antibiotics!
