I don't know if ferrets are carriers, but cats are the primary concern for
toxoplasmosis.  This parasite can cause blindness in the fetus while having
little if any effect on the mother.  My parasitology professor refuses to
even let pregnant women into his house for fear they might acquire the
parasite from his cat.  Apparently it's very common in cats, but as I said,
I don't know how prevalent it is in ferrets.  Better safe than sorry!
