Because it is illegal for any veterinarian to treat an animal they have
not verified the status of.  Yes, all the ferrets probably need to be
treated.  However, I will not dispense medication for an animal that I
have not examined without a prescription from a veterinarian who has
examined the animal within the past year.  That is to protect both myself
legally, and to protect the animals from an improper prescription.  I
realize that ear mite medicine is unlikely to be harmful, but the law
is clear.
