Hi everyone! Thanks to the kind people who emailed me about my premiere
entry to the FML! I don't know how to copy a specific reference from the
FML into my response, so for now, I'll just type a general message to
everyone!

I saw a posting regarding ferrets drinking urine, I think by Beth,
mailto:[log in to unmask]

My oldest, Smidgy, has developed the habit within the last year of drinking
any urine that is on the floor and chasing the other three ferrets around
after they use the litterbox to clean them up. I've asked my vet about it,
who seems very knowledgeable about these guys, and she can't find a reason
for him to be doing it. I thought that it indicated that he was missing
some vitamins or nutrients ferrets bodies need, but the vet took some tests
and everything was normal! I don't think Smidgy has any gay tendencies (if
that's possible! :) ) so I've chalked it up to him being a neat freak in
his "old age". My vet also recommended using the individual small
unmedicated gauze squares you can buy (for humans) by the band aids in the
store for cleaning ferrets teeth if it's hard to do otherwise. She said to
just cover the tips of your fingers with the gauze and rub the teeth as
clean as you can. Admittedly, ear cleaning and tooth cleaning are done
less frequently than anything else at my house because it's hard to do!
Hope that info helps!
